Fortunately, you can easily solve this problem with sound-deadening mats. In this article, I’ll be comparing two of the most famous ones on the market, which are Dynamat and Hushmat.

When it comes to sound-deadening mats, Dynamat is one of the most effective and popular products on the market. It’s a trusted brand and is used all over the world. Dynamat is a heat-resistant and aluminum-coated deadener that will drastically reduce road and vehicle noise, thereby giving you the peace and quiet you need to enjoy your ride.
It’s been well-designed to absorb unwanted noise, and since it’s heat-resistant and aluminum-coated, it’s pretty safe to install in your car. I personally love using this product, and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a high-quality sound-deadening mat.
It can go in many places in your car, such as behind the door panels, below the carpet and above the headliner. The material can be easily stretched without tearing. The only downside to this product is that the price is extremely high.
The Effectiveness of Dynamat
As I mentioned earlier, Dynamat is one of the most effective sound-deadening materials on the market today. Usually, with sound deadeners, you need to cover as much surface area as possible in order to receive outstanding results.
Dynamat will surely do its job, however, even if you just use it to cover a small space. Being thick and sturdy, this material is able to hold quite firmly to virtually any surface. In terms of effectiveness, this deadener goes from 10dB to 28b.
Dynamat’s Installation Process
This may be a bit tricky for some people. I personally don’t think it’s difficult to install, but it’s not easy, either, mostly due to the thickness of the mat. The thickness is the main reason for its effectiveness, though.
That being said, you’ll probably need to hire a professional to help you with the installation process, and this will result in a bit more financial investment.

Since it’s considered the most effective sound deadener on the market, it’s normal for it to have a high price. Even though it’s not affordable for those on a tight budget, Dynamat is an amazing product, and I highly recommend it if you’re serious about soundproofing your car.
The investment will be $5 to $6 per square foot. If you do the math, you’ll need to invest a bit more for a whole car, but I can guarantee that’s it’s worth it.

Most soundproofing mats on the market are a bit complicated to understand, which makes the installation process hard.
They don’t come with a beginner kit to make things easier, either. Luckily, Hushmat is an exception, as it comes with a great kit that will make the process more simple. The package includes a knife, a strong roller, a control decal and mats. Therefore, you won’t need to invest unnecessary cash in these items.
When it comes to functionality, Hushmat and Dynamat are pretty identical. They’re thick and can easily insulate unwanted noise. Hushmat also is a self-adhesive mat, which will relieve you of the responsibility of buying adhesive.
I should also note that Hushmat’s material is a bit thinner than Dynamat’s, but it’s still convenient since it comes in different kits for doors and floors and you can even purchase this product in bulk.
Because there are no cheap plastic fillers or asphalt resins, Hushmat doesn’t produce an odor, even at high temperatures.
The Effectiveness of Hushmat
Hushmat is quite similar to Dynamat when it comes to thermal resistance, bonding and sound-deadening. Since it’s butyl-based, it’s able to withstand a certain amount of heat, so it’s completely safe to install it in your car.
Hushmat’s Installation Process
Compared to Dynamat, Hushmat is a lot easier to install and remove, due to its thinner material. This will save you lots of time and energy, especially if you’re planning on removing it in the future.
Although it’s very easy to remove, the downside is that the mat can fall off if a particular ride is a bit rough and full of potholes.
Where Can You Use Hushmat?
Unlike Dynamat, the usage of Hushmat is a bit narrow in terms of where you can install it. Hushmat is mostly used for audio and automotive applications.
Aside from cars, it can also be used within boats, ships, fire trucks, Peterbilt trucks and RVs. As we mentioned earlier, Hushmat comes in various kits of different types.
The Price Range of Hushmat
If you’re low on cash and are looking for an affordable alternative to Dynamat, Hushmat is the way to go. When we did the calculations, the price came to around $2 per square foot, so it’s quite a bit cheaper.
You should keep in mind that this price stands for automotive installations only. If you’re looking to insulate a door or floor, it will cost you around $3 or $4 per square foot.

It’s really hard to decide which sound-deadening material is the best. That’s why I think it’s best to compare these two alongside each other.
Effectiveness
In terms of effectiveness, its a pretty tough decision, but due to Dynamat being thicker than Hushmat (which means it’s better at sound-dampening), I’ll give Dynamat the win.
Affordability
When you compare the price of both products, Dynamat belongs to a more expensive price point category than Hushmat. So without a doubt, Hushmat is the clear winner.
Ease of Installation
When it comes to the installation process, Dynamat is not beginner-friendly, and you might need to hire a professional to get the job done if you’re not a handy person. I find Hushmat a lot easier to install, since it’s thinner and easier to cut, so the winner is clearly Hushmat once more.
Field of Usage
Dynamat is considered to be the champion when it comes to usage, as you can use it to insulate any area in which you have noise or vibration problems. On the other hand, Hushmat is specifically suited to audio and automotive sound-dampening applications.
Dynamat vs. Hushmat – Final Verdict
In my opinion, both products are amazing when it comes to sound-dampening a car. This is why they’re considered two of the most effective sound-deadening materials on the market. So, I can’t clearly decide who wins this battle—it’s up to you to choose which one suits you best.
